2013 OUTSTANDING

FARMER OF THE YEAR

 

— Mr. and Mrs. Don Kinslow of Smith Grove, received this award in 2013 for completing a total CNMP for the dairy operation;  installing 7,735 feet of Woodland and Stream Protection Fencing; providing livestock Access Control from 20.5 acres of woodland and water bodies; installing 2 Stream Crossing for livestock; utilizing Cross Fencing allowing for proper livestock grazing rotations; installing 1,850 feet of Pipelines and 4 Watering Tanks for an alternative livestock watering system; constructing an animal waste management  system for 250 feeder heifers at 1,000 lb each; and the overall agricultural improvements to their farming operation.

MASTER CONSERVATIONIST
 

Mr. and Mrs. Rickey Nuckols of Glasgow, received this award in 2013 for installing 2,790 feet of Stream Protection Fencing, providing livestock Access Control from water bodies on the property; installing 1 Stream Crossing for livestock; nearly 3,000 Cross Fencing allowing for proper livestock grazing rotations, installing 3,044 feet of Pipeline and 5 Watering Tanks for an alternative livestock watering system; and the overall agricultural improvements to their farming operation.

MASTER CONSERVATIONIST

 

Mr. and Mrs. Billy Carver Jr. of Glasgow, received this award in 2013 for installing 4,135 feet of Woodland and Stream Protection Fencing; providing livestock Access Control from 2.95 acres of water bodies; installing 2 Stream Crossing for livestock; Cross Fencing for proper livestock grazing rotations; installing 820 feet of Pipelines and 2 Watering Tanks for an alternative livestock watering system; 2,680 square feet of Heavy Use Area Protection;  43 acres of pasture and hayland renovation; and the overall agricultural improvements to their farming operation.

I'm MASTER CONSERVATIONIST

 

Mrs. Sarah Shirley and Family of Hiseville, received this award in 2013 for her work in agricultural diversification.  Mrs. Shirley and her family installed a 2,160 square feet Seasonal High Tunnel on their property to promote plant health and extend the growing season.

FORESTRY AWARD

 

Doctor Martha Seeley of Temple Hill, received this award in 2013 for her work in improving the resource base of the Timberland on her operation.  Doctor Seeley and her family implemented the following practices in 2012; 33 acres of Timber Stand Improvement and 33 acres of Brush Management with Chemical herbicides.  They have also implemented the following practices in 2013; 4 acres of Fescue Eradication; 4 acres of Tree & Shrub Establishment; and 33 acres of a follow-up treatment for Brush Management with Chemical Herbicides.  They have also diversified their farming operation by planting approximately 400 blueberry bushes in 2011.
